Violence mars PDP’s screening of aspirants for Bayelsa LG poll
Bayelsa, Headlines, State News Friday, November 30th, 2012Fierce violent clashes among the ranks of the Peoples Democratic Party marred the screening of 97 chairmanship aspirants for the local government election in Bayelsa State on Wednesday.
The clash took place just as Governor Henry Seriake Dickson of Bayelsa State tasked the Nigeria Police and the State Security Service to conduct detailed checks on the over 97 aspirants seeking to clinch the ticket of the PDP for the forthcoming council election in the state.
The screening, which was being conducted by the zonal executive and the National Deputy Treasurer of the party, Chief Claudius Enegesi, at the party secretariat along the Diepreye Alamieyeseigha Expressroad nearly turned bloody as supporters of some of the aspirants engaged in free-for-all over issues bothering on cash and support for the aspirants.
However, a detachment of operatives of the Bayelsa Police Security Outfit, Operation Doo Akpo, in three Hilux vans, saved day as proceedings had been stopped before they were able to bring the situation under control.
