Delta, State News Thursday, February 10th, 2011The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) recorded about 1.9 million eligible voters in Delta State during the just concluded voter registration exercise.
The state’s Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Dr. Gabriel Ogbudu Ada, who disclosed this in Asaba while fielding questions from newsmen, added that the commission had not got all the number of registered voters, and that Warri South recorded the highest number of eligible voters.
Dr. Gabriel Ada stated that the commission had conducted a mop up exercise in the three Warri local government areas in the state (Warri South, Warri North and Warri South-West) in order to cover the time lag at the commencement of voter exercise in those areas.
He posited that Uvwie, Ughelli and Warri South local government areas recorded over 100 thousand voters each while others registered less than that.
He averred that moves were on to identify those involved in double and under-aged registration during the one-week extension, saying that, already, two INEC staff were among those arrested and being prosecuted.
Ada stated that the commission had arrested 12 people in the six local government areas of Delta State: Ndokwa West, Sapele, Burutu, Warri South, Oshimili South and Ughelli South.
