A video has surfaced online showing the moment Human Rights activist, Omoyele Sowore, engaged in an altercation with the Nigerian Police Force at the Federal High Court in Abuja during his arrest.
Naija News reports that Sowore, who was at the court on Thursday to meet with the leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu, was arrested on the court premises.
In the viral video, Sowore demanded that his lawyer be allowed to accompany him when operatives picked him from the court.
The officers in the video could be heard saying that the activist was not being arrested, but the Commissioner of Police “said we should bring you to the office.”
However, Sowore questioned why no invitation letter had been issued.
He insisted that his lawyer be allowed to accompany him to the Commissioner’s office, saying: “You said the Commissioner of Police said you should arrest me by force? You didn’t bring any letter of invitation. You have to take me with my lawyer. You know we have to stand for you when they oppress you, but since you are standing for oppression, no problem.”
The officers granted Sowore’s request, and they left the court premises for the Commissioner’s office.
