We are rascals for progress — Tinubu

A leader of the Action Congress of Nigeria and former governor of Lagos State, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, has promised that the party would replicate the various developmental programmes in Lagos State and other ACN states if voted to power in the April elections.

Tinubu made the promise at a rally in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital on Saturday, where the party’s governorship candidate in the state, Senator Abiola Ajimobi, was formally presented to the people.

While urging the people of the state to vote out what he called ‘bad governance of liars,’ he advised them to vote for Ajimobi so that they and generations yet unborn could be liberated from the shackles of poverty that characterise misrule.

Tinubu promised that the ACN candidate would revolutionise agriculture for income earnings like the late sage, Chief Obafemi Awolowo, who used agriculture funds to institutionalise many of the legacies that the South-West is still proud of till date, like the Liberty Stadium (now Obafemi Awolowo Stadium), Cocoa House, Nigerian Television Authority, and the Premier Hotel, among others.

Tinubu berated President Goodluck Jonathan for describing ACN chieftains in the South West as rascals during a presidential campaign at the same Mapo Hall venue of the ACN rally.

He said that such language was “uncouth and not presidential.”

He accused the ruling Peoples’ Democratic Party of destroying the country in the last 12 years, and called on Nigerians to reject the party at all levels during the April general elections.

He said, “Jonathan is not the kind of person that we want as president of Nigeria. He is treacherous. He came here and called us rascals. We are rascals for progress, development and for all the good of our people.

“We are not bastards; he came here to abuse our parents; fathers and mothers alike. We are educated people. When did they start education and became civilised in their place? Where is he from?”

Many PDP stalwarts were officially received into the ACN fold during the rally.

Those received included a former Secretary to the State Government, Chief Sharafadeen Alli; a factional Chairman of the PDP, Alhaji Yunus Akintunde; members of the House of Representatives from the state, including Mr. Ayo Adeseun, Mr. Kamil Akinlabi, Mr. Tayo Oyetunji and the Oyo State Coordinator for Yar’Adua/Akala 2007 election, Chief Yemi Aderibigbe.

Other dignitaries present at the rally were Governor Babatunde Fashola of Lagos State; Mr. Rauf Aregbesola of Osun State; ACN national chairman, Chief Bisi Akande governorship candidate of the party in Ogun State, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, a former National Chairman of the Alliance for Democracy, Chief Michael Koleosho, and many of the party’s candidates for both arms of the National Assembly and State Assembly.
