Why PDP plotted to kill me – Gov. Aregbesola

Osun State Governor, Rauf Aregbesola has said the Peoples Democratic Party plotted to kill him in 2007 in order to put the state in perpetual bondage.

Aregbesola made this assertion at the Oroki Day celebration held at the Osogbo Township Stadium,  on Saturday.

He recalled that his personal vehicle was riddled with bullets when he was a guest during the 2007 Oroki Day celebration.

The governor said the PDP in the state knew his capacity for development, hence “they were totally out to end my dream to liberate the people of Osun State.”

A video of the alleged violence that greeted the Oroki Day celebration showed some hoodlums beating up alleged members of the Action Congress of Nigeria, stripping some naked and damaging several cars belonging to the ACN during the Oroki Day celebration in 2007.

The black bullet-proof sport utility Mercedes Benz that chauffeured Aregbesola to the occasion was riddled with bullet marks even as ACN supporters ran helter-skelter during the violence.

Violence broke out during the celebration in 2007 when some hoodlums attacked Aregbesola and ACN members for arriving at the venue when the programme was under way.

A stalwart of Osun PDP, Mr. Soji Adagunodo, however, said the party never attempted to assassinate Aregbesola in 2007, stressing that “Osun PDP is a party of decent men and women.”

He said, “I urge Governor Aregbesola to let bygones be bygones and concentrate on the task of governance. He (Aregbesola) should not dwell on issues that can distract his government.”

Aregbesola said, “The people of Osogbo have particularly been at the receiving end of my political leadership endeavour. They were the first to be cruelly flushed out of this very stadium by gun-wielding security agents on the very first day we were to launch Oranmiyan, the political platform for my governorship aspiration.

“The city was an object of intense interrogation in the build up to the 2007 elections and was among the centres of military occupation immediately after.”
