GOOD things come in surprise package, they say. Such was the lot of Juliet Imobhio, a woman whose husband was allegedly killed by officials of the Edo State Traffic Management Agency (EDSTMA).

When her 41-year-old husband, Godfrey Imobhio, died in April, 2014, thoughts about how she would take care of the three children she was left with must have filled her heart. Indeed, the death may have put a big question mark on the future of her children since she was a full-time housewife when her husband died.

Succour, however, came Juliet’s way as she received the support of the Edo State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) who pledged the sum of N2 million to her and her children.

Edo State Police Commissioner, Mr Foluso Adebanjo, had, in May, 2014, confirmed the arrest of two EDSTMA officials including one Mr Nosa Aideyan, for allegedly causing the death of Mrs Imobhio’s husband, Godfrey, who, at that time, was a transport manager at a Benin-based distribution company.

Piqued by the manner the late Godfrey lost his life in the hands of the EDSTMA officials, the PDP decided to come to the woman’s aid.

Apart from the sum that was raised when the party briefed journalists at their secretariat in Benin, the duo of the Esama of Benin, Chief Gabriel Osawaru Igbinedion, and the state chairman of the PDP, Chief Dan Orbih, awarded scholarship to three children left behind by the late Godfrey.

Orbih, who spoke at the briefing, said the EDSTMA officials had been unleashing terror on motorists in Benin, pointing out that the killing of the late Godfrey was worse than the attack on the “Go and Die Woman because they had created a widow and had neglected her.

“They (EDSTMA) have been unleashing terror on the people. As a party, we have the responsibility to return sanity to the state. We commiserate with the family and we promise never to leave them alone. We will also open an account in the name of the family so that the children can have a future,” he stated.

Orbih, who personally donated the sum of N200, 000 at the event, disclosed that the PDP would always support victims of what he termed “the repressive policies of the state government.”

Other PDP leaders, who pledged their donations to the family, included Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu, Hon Matthew Uduorikemwen, Hon Pascal Ugbome, Johnson Agbonayimwan, Rev Martins Evbuomwan, Hon Godwin Eshishi and PDP lawmakers in the Edo State House of Assembly.

Responding, Mrs Imobhio, who said life had been difficult for her family since the death of her husband, thanked the party for the gesture, promising to make judicious use of the sum.
