‘Jonathan ’ll beat Buhari, Shekarau’
Latest Politics Tuesday, January 25th, 2011The National Political Adviser, Support Dr Goodluck/Sambo Project 2011, Mr. Sunday Olaifa, has said that no candidate can stop President Goodluck Jonathan from winning the April election. Not only that, he said Jonathan would defeat the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) presidential candidate, Mallam Ibrahim Shekarau and his Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) counterpart, Muhammadu Buhari, in their home states of Kano and Katsina respectively.
Olaifa, who is also the Lagos State co-ordinator of the organization said that Jonathan is the man whose time has come and as such, none of the presidential candidates could stop him from winning the April presidential election. He posited that “Nigerians are eagerly waiting for the April presidential election to replicate in larger scale what the PDP delegates did in the January 13 primary.
“As a divine project, Jonathan would defeat the other candidates the way the children of Israel conquered Babylon without firing a single shot. When we were telling Nigerians that Jonathan has been ordained to rule Nigeria some people thought that it was mere propaganda to use God’s name to capture the minds of Nigerians. The outcome of the last PDP presidential primary has shown that we are no jokers. Come April, he will defeat Shekarau in Kano State and Buhari in Katsina State, just as he defeated Atiku Abubakar in Adamawa State. This is a divine project which no man can stop.
“You can remember that in the ancient world that Babylon was the strongest nation because it was fortified with high walls thereby making it impenetratable by attackers. But the children of Israel conquered it without firing a single shot because it was a divine project. We are aware that Buhari and Shekarau are strong in their own rights but this is a divine project, which no man can stop. Kano and Katsina would fall for Jonathan the way Babylon fell to the children of Israel.”
Why Jonathan is the preferred candidate
“Jonathan rose through the ranks to become what he is today. He started from deputy governor to governor. From governor to vice president and from vice president to acting president and then to substantial president. This is a credential which no other Nigerian can boast of. Therefore in terms of experience, he towers among the other candidates. Buhari is a man of integrity .He did well as a military head of state but he does not have any democratic experience. Electing him as president would mean putting a round object into a square hole, which cannot fit in. “The other reason why we are rooting for Jonathan is the effort that his administration has made so far in the critical sectors of the economy like power generation and distribution. Today, queues at the filling stations are a thing of the past. There is also peace in the former restive Niger Delta. These are things that are of paramount importance to the Nigerian people. Again, he is a listening president and his humility is second to none.”
Chances of PDP winning Lagos
“The chances of the PDP winning Lagos State governorship election are very bright. This is possible if the governorship candidate carries everybody along. If he operates an all inclusive arrangement that would bring all the leaders on board, be it the establishment group of Bode George, the Lagos Solidarity Forum under the leadership of Wahab Dosumu. The other groups are the ones led by Dupe Sasore, Senator Musiliu Obanikoro, Chief Wale Mogaji, the pioneer secretary of the party in the state and the person who brought PDP to Lagos State, Dapo Sarumi and Senator Seye Ogunlewe.
“If all these groups are carried along, they would beat Babatunde Raji Fashola in the April governorship election. Ade Dosumu is from the establishment group of Bode George. It is therefore advisable that his deputy should come from another group so that everybody would be carried along and also have sense of belonging. If we all come together and work together PDP will win Lagos State governorship election.”
Our group
“The Support Dr Goodluck Jonathan /Sambo Project 2011 is a national network of likeminded and well-meaning politicians/professionals from all walks of life. Chief Richard Akinjide is our grand patron. This group metamorphosed from the Campaign Network For Yar’Adua and Jonathan Presidency 2011which was founded in May 2009. It was with the consent of the late President Yar’Adua. Our vision is to work assiduously towards the enthronement of good governance in Nigeria.”
Mission
“Our mission is to embark on aggressive campaign for the realization of Jonathan/Sambo Presidency. To partner with Jonathan’s administration to lead Nigeria to national restoration, economic recovery and social transformation. Our aim is to urge Jonathan to contest, to partner with the government in its efforts to give Nigerians good governance through credible electioneering and to foster the unity of Nigeria.”
Funding
“The fact is that the organization is self-funded. The members make contributions. We have not received a kobo from any external body. You know when you talk about supporting a candidate; people think that you have got money from the candidate. Ours is not like that. This organization was formed with the consent of ex-President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua. We are not among the groups that just came out. We have been there and will continue to be there even after the presidential election in April. This is not another bread and butter opportunist group. We have history and character.”
Fashola performance is not spectacular
“Fashola’s achievement is being hyped. He has not done anything spectacular. His government is elitist. Look at the education sector in the state. Look at the last WAEC result as it affects Lagos and you will see that the standard of education is falling. Look at the state of road from Ayobo to Iyana Ipaja and you will know that he has not necessarily done much. I strongly believe that if PDP puts its house in order in Lagos and brings everybody that has value to add on board, it can win Lagos. But I have my doubt if it can do that because of the winner takes it all syndrome.”
