‘Nigerian leaders fighting corruption with corruption’

President and Founder, Oodua People’s Congress, Dr. Frederick Fasehun, has accused Nigerian leaders of adopting corruption to fight corruption in the country.

At a press conference in Lagos on Tuesday, Fasehun said corruption was fast becoming a monster that would destroy the country if the right methods were not adopted to quickly tackle it.

He said, “Corruption reigns supreme as a thriving industry. And corruption is fast becoming a monster that will destroy the nation if the right methods are not adopted to quickly tackle it.

“Unfortunately, our leaders keep adopting corruption to fight corruption. What happened to the billions recovered from late former Head of State, Sani Abacha; from former Inspector General of Police, Tafa Balogun; Lucky Igbinedion, James Ibori and the rest?”

Fasehun also called on President Goodluck Jonathan to call the bluff of Boko Haram insurgents demanding his resignation.

He said it would be a bad precedence for a President to leave his office because of terrorists demanding his removal.

“We cannot override the National Assembly to remove him if they think he deserves to be removed,” he said.

Fasehun said only a fool would play the ethno-religious cards in contemporary Nigerian politics, noting that religion had no place in Nigerian politics.

Fasehun said, “No country has ever survived two civil wars. We have experienced one. Another civil war will be Nigeria’s Armageddon.

“In this current atmosphere of hostility, the nations resulting from a broken Nigeria will be eternally antagonistic neighbours.”

Fasehun, however, said the only panacea for the restructuring, reforming, re-designing and retransforming the nation was the convening of Sovereign National Conference.wp_posts
