‘Reverse sale of Legislators’ Quarters to Mark, Bankole’
House, Latest Politics, Legislature, Senate Tuesday, June 14th, 2011The Progressive Leadership Organisation International, PLOI, yesterday, urged the Presidency to reverse the sale of official residential quarters of principal officers of the National Assembly to the Senate President, David Mark; former Speaker, Dimeji Bankole; the Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu and former Deputy Speaker, Usman Bayero Nafada; describing the purchase as the height of immorality.
PLOI, in a statement issued in Lagos by its president, Emmanuel Ezeume, said the sale of the houses was part of the deals reached between President Goodluck Jonathan and leadership of the last National Assembly when he was Acting President, adding that it was a subtle blackmail to witch-hunt the President into doing what was not in the national interest .
PLOI, which condemned the sale, queried the rationale behind sale of houses which were not ordinary houses but institutional houses to principal officers of the National Assembly by the Executive, which the Executive had no right in the first place to have sold out.
