‘She Terminated My Appointment Because I Refused to Sleep in Her Bedroom’

Dear Relationship Angel,

I’m Victor. Last year, I got a job as a personal assistant in a small company in Lagos. The Managing Director is largely based in the U.S. but comes to Nigeria once or twice a year, that is, at Christmas and Easter. So, most of the time, his wife runs the company.

What happened was that I had been working for her husband for 11 months and throughout that time, she had been making passes at me but I pretended not to notice it. But, this time around, immediately her man traveled to the US, after the Easter, she started coming inside my room and taking me out. She said I should feel free with her and that I should be sleeping with her inside her bedroom. I bluntly refused to do that, and the next thing she did was to sack me. I am 33 years old, while she is 47. I’m a graduate but she’s not. Now I’m jobless!

From Victor, 0703631xxxx.

Angel’s Advice: She is wrong to sack you because you refused to go to bed with her. I’ve addressed issues of sexual harassment on this page before. However, since she is sexually harassing you and you’re not interested in having an affair with her, you really have no choice but to forget her and find work elsewhere. Thank God you’re a graduate. You’re educated, so the best thing to do now is to use your certificate to start looking for another job.
