11 killed in gun duel by police

ASABA — DELTA State Police Command said it has arrested 12 suspects in connection with violent clash that occurred at a college premises last Friday, which led to the death of a 23 year-old-man.
State Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Mr. Famous Ajieh, who stated this while appraising the activities of the command within the past one month assured Deltans that the command was determined to ensure adequate security in the State.
According to him, “the command has continued to record successes in its battle against all forms of criminalities due to robust security measures put in place.
In January 2013 alone, 18 notorious hoodlums terrorizing parts of the state were arrested, 11 others were gunned down during gun duel with the police while 21 firearms including one AK 47 rifle and one pump action gun were recovered.
He added that “police at Otu-Jeremi on the 15th of this month received that two rival cult groups were engulfed in a fight at St. Vincent College Okwagbe who were using dangerous weapons”. He added that 12 of the suspects including a gang leader were arrested while others escaped.
