12 corpses dumped in Rivers community

Homicide detectives of the Rivers State Police Command have started investigation into the death of 12 persons dumped in Ola-Ikate Community in Ahoada area of the state.
The lifeless bodies were found yesterday morning in a section of the community.

The gory incident occurred, just as armed robbers used explosives to blow up five lock-up shops in the D-Line area of Port Harcourt and carted away prized items including jewelries.
Sources said the Ola-Ikate villagers woke up early in the morning and found the dead bodies. Ironically, the identities of the dead persons remained unknown as no family in the community had reported the loss of any person as at press time.

It was also gathered that none of the neighbouring communities had reported any case of missing persons, thus fueling suspicion that the bodies might have been brought into the community from elsewhere. Confirming this suspicion, a Police source in the area told Daily Sun that, “no shot was heard” by the natives before they found the bodies.

“The Police just saw 12 bodies of men and the blood on the ground was very scanty.“Our suspicion is that those people might have been murdered somewhere and their killers came and dumped the bodies there.” The source also told Daily Sun that, “of more than 1000 people that went there to see the bodies, no one could identify any of them.”

In another circumstance, in Port Harcourt, armed robbers raided five lock-up shops said to belong to gold merchants and went away with expensive jewelries worth hundreds of thousands of naira. The hoodlums were said to have used dynamites to blow up the shops amidst gun shots in the night.
