Tears flowed freely in a Lagos suburb, at the weekend after two persons were killed in a street fight over a girlfriend. The problem allegedly began as a minor quarrel at a social party held in Apapa, which later degenerated into street fight back home in Ajegunle.
Pandemonium broke out when the youths living at Alayabiagba area of Ajegunle supported one of their own to engage their counterparts residing in Aiyetoro area in a fight over the issue. Guns and other dangerous weapons were freely used and over 10 vehicles were damaged.

People scampered to safety to avoid being hit by stray bullets. Shops were closed and residents remained indoors.
Though as at the time of filing this report, the names of the two men that accused each other of snatching the lover girl were unknown, Daily Sun gathered that two men, identified simply as Sunkanmi and Sheriff, were killed in the battle.
Sheriff was said to have been discussing with one of his friends outside his residence at Oduduwa Street, where a stray bullet hit him in the abdomen. Sheriff, whose wife was said to be pregnant died before he could be rushed to a nearby hospital.

A resident in the area, Chief Kolawole Adebanjo told Daily Sun that he escaped death by the whiskers as a bullet narrowly missed him when he was returning from work. Adebanjo praised the police for handling the matter in a civilised manner, saying the fight would have escalated if not for the intervention of the policemen.

In another development, police operatives attached to Apapa Division have killed two suspected armed robbers and recovered one locally made pistol, five live cartridges, two motorcycles, two handsets and a bunch of charms from them, at the weekend.

The two alleged armed robbers were said to have gone to a supermarket on Calcutta Crescent, Apapa and pointed a gun at a whiteman ordering him and others to surrender all their money and valuables.
