2015: Youth urged to shun political thuggery in Ebonyi (Let the gov. lead by example)
Ebonyi, Headlines, State News Thursday, May 15th, 2014Youths in Ebonyi State have been urged to shun any form of political violence such as thuggery in the forthcoming 2015 general elections.
The youths were, however, told to seek elective positions as they were already leaders of today against the notion that they were leaders of tomorrow and should stop being used as thugs for politicians, who don’t mean well for them.
The president of South-East Youths Assembly (SEYA), Ambassador Simon Nwokoro, gave the advice during the inauguration of Ebonyi State chapter of the organisation in Abakaliki, while also commending President Goodluck Jonathan and wife for appointing youths into his cabinet.
He called on the youths to develop the spirit of entrepreneurship; to organise, develop a viable platform to promote skillful and talented ones coming among them and inspire those who would serve as change agents.
According to him: “We look forward to our youths to champion a new orientation aimed at the enthronement of a progressive leadership class that will help this nation bid farewell to poverty. Our generation will not be wasted generation. As youth professionals and youths in particular, we must, through our everyday lives, strive for excellence and seek to redress injustices.”
“We can also through our professional associations make inputs through representations to redress the problems in our society.
“Through the study of the legacy of our founding fathers, we have come to realize that we must jettison the expired impression that the youthful age is a stage to develop odd desires and attitudes, warped ideals and gain an excuse for being redundant in life. I salute the youths, who recognise that there is a world outside. This is the stuff that leaders are made of,” he stated.
In his remarks, the coordinator of the South-East Assembly, Mr Chikaodili Elom said the organisation was a rallying point for championing youth participation in governance, adding that the Assembly would provide a leeway in the quest to build new youth structure and a new nation.
