UAE compounds visa woes for Nigerians, gives August 17 ultimatum to leave the country

(NNP) In the aftermath of the arrest of Hushpuppy whose real name is Abass Ramon and his accomplice for fraud, the government of the United Arab Emirates has compounded the woes for Nigerians by asking all those whose visas have expired to leave the country on or before August 17.

Following up on this order, the Embassy of Nigeria in the oil rich Middle Eastern country noted in a statement released on Wednesday that “The Embassy wishes to inform that the government of the United Arab Emirates has granted waivers on fines/penalties on visas that expired before 1st March 2020 to leave the country on or before 17th of August, 2020.”

It further stated, “Consequently, the Embassy is urging fellow Nigerians living in the UAE to avail themselves of this opportunity to return home with the impending Air Peace evacuation flight scheduled for 1st August 2020, and or subsequent Emirates evacuation flights before the expiration of the grace period.”

The Embassy implored Nigerians who have fallen out of visa status to comply and leave the country. It stated, “Accordingly, affected Nigerian nationals who are willing to return home are kindly requested to submit their names and passport numbers to the Embassy and or the Consulate for onward transmission to the UAE authorities to obtain the necessary clearance.”

In continuation of the fallout of the fraud perpetuated by the duo, a hiring agency in the UAE recently noted in its job ad that Nigerians should not apply while encouraging other Africans to apply. The ad drew the irk of lawful Nigerians across the globe on social media who called attention to the good deeds of millions of Nigerians including those in Canada, USA, England and even in the UAE engaged in meaningful work and research that have advanced humanity. They noted that Nigerian doctors and medical professionals are at the forefront in the on-going pandemic treating COVID-19 patients and involved in serious research to find a vaccine for the virus.

Hushpuppy and his accomplice were extradited to the United States to face trial for allegedly defrauding thousands of Americans of millions of dollars.
