Trump contradicts Pompeo on alleged Russian involvement in cyberattack
Africa & World Politics, American Politics Monday, December 21st, 2020(The Political Scientist) In what has now become a familiar trend with the Trump administration, Trump on Saturday debunked the suggestion that Russia was behind the massive data breach on several U.S. agencies, including the Homeland Security Department. Mike Pompeo, his Secretary of State had stated that Russian was likely to blame for the breach. But Trump looked towards China as the culprit for the massive cyberattack that is rocking the impacted agencies. Trump stated in a pair of tweets, “Russia is the priority chant when anything happens because Lamestream is, for mostly financial reasons, petrified of……..discussing the possibility that it may be China (it may!)”
Since the onset of his administration, Trump has been very reluctant to point fingers at Russia for alleged interferences in U.S. internal affairs. In 2018, while meeting with the Russian leader, Vladimir Putin in Helsinki, the Finnish capital, Trump exonerated Russia on the global stage on the accusation of election interference after all intelligence agencies stated that Russia attempted to interfere in the 2016 elections. A Robert Mueller led investigation concluded that Russia did interfere in the 2016 presidential elections to help Trump to become president.
