Corruption: EFCC to probe church leaders soon -Gordon

Worried by the failure of some Christian leaders to rise above corrupt practices in their conducts, a top cleric, Apostle Eunice Gordon, has warned that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) would soon go after church leaders in the country.
Gordon, who is also the General Overseer of the Spirit and Life Bible Church, who spoke to journalists in Abuja insisted that corruption was still endemic in the country that even the church had not been spared. She said it was unacceptable that 70 millions of Nigerians should be living in poverty.
Against the backdrop of high profile corruption cases involving some members of leading Pentecostal churches in the country, Gordon said that the Pastors of those implicated in such practices should share in the blame.
She said the General Overseers were meant to take responsibility for the spiritual welfare of their flocks, and, therefore, they had questions to answer when members of their churches fail to live up to the standard of morality expected of Christians.
In reference to the multi-billion naira fraud that rocked the banking sector which led to the trial of some top bank executives during the year, she noted that a number of those involved were prominent members of some well-known denominations. She insited that those who had spiritual oversight over them should not be absolved from blame.
“How can someone be a member of your church and brings in money above his means and you don’t ask questions?” She said she screened her church members to avoid a situation where somebody who is a member of the church would stray and soil the name of the church.
Describing Nigeria as a wicked nation ripe for the judgement of God, Gordon insisted it was the responsibility of the Pastors to pray the country back to God. “The nation is ripe. I could feel the purse of God’s anger. Corruption is an institution. It is a way of life, from the top to the bottom, every stratum of the society,” she said.
As a way out, she called for individual repentance, adding that the power of change is by living by example.wp_posts
