It has also mobilised over 95,000 corps members for the Batch-B orientation across the country. This is the highest number since the inception of the scheme in 1973.
The Director-General of NYSC, Brigadier General Maharazu Tsiga, who made this known during the briefing organised for the seven War Against Poverty (WAP) entrepreneurs, who attended training at Barry University, in United States of America, informed that the training was supported financially by the office of the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Millennium Development Goals (MDGs)
He disclosed that the training was an economic empowerment programme which focused on MDGs and targeted the corps members to enable them transit smoothly into post-service life.
He said it was also to empower corps members with entrepreneurial and agro-enterprise skills and corresponding interest free loans, with a view to generating employment.
According to him “ under the programme interested corps members are given entrepreneurial and vocational training in seven agro-enterprises, namely fish farming, snailery, grasscutter farming, poultry production, bee-keeping and animal husbandry and plantain sucker multiplication”
On the Batch-B orientation and the issue of relocation, he said that all cases of marital cases should be treated with dispatch while health cases should be handled with the medical committee on camp.
He reminded the corps members to be mindful of the prevailing situation in the country and be security conscious.
He said security is not the responsibility of the security agencies alone and that all hands must be on deck.
