Minister’s Dress Sets Tongues Wagging in Kano
Headlines, Ministries Sunday, July 24th, 2011Kano — Minister of Aviation, Princess Stella Adaeze Ogiemwinyi, set tongues wagging yesterday in the ancient city of Kano over her English outfit locals considered offensive to their cultural values.
The minister dressed in a smart dark long sleeve shirt and dark jeans trousers to match had arrived Kano on a chattered flight for an official visit to inspect airport facilties in the state.
The visit of the minister coincided with the return journey of Kano State Deputy Governor, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, via the airport that drew a large crowd of religious and political leaders to the airport. Princess Adaeze on arrival shunned top management staff of Malam Aminu Kano International Airport that filed out for ceremony for the arrival hall and settled down for business of the day.
There was a loud protest by locals as tongues wagged as to whether the minister would visit the governor, a moderate Muslim and the monarch in the “offensive outfit”. The Aviation Minister, who was not conscious of events heralding her presence in the city, inspected ongoing activities on the new control tower at the airport and in less than half an hour, jumped into a waiting SUV van and zoomed off to the Government House, Kano.
