Armed men abduct PDP chieftain in Edo, kill orderly, driver
Edo, Party Politics, Peoples' Democratic Party (PDP), State News Monday, August 29th, 2011BENIN CITY — TRAGEDY struck in Benin City, yesterday, when armed men, suspected to be kidnappers, abducted the Chairman/Managing Director of Tomline Industrial Company Limited and a chieftain of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, Elder Tes Sorae, after his driver and orderly were shot dead.
His wife, who was also shot, is in critical situation at an undisclosed hospital. Vanguard learnt that the suspected kidnappers laid siege to the PDP chieftain at his textile mill residence while Elder Sorae and his family went to church.
It was gathered that the suspected kidnappers opened fire on his vehicle when they arrived from church service and were about entering their compound. It was learnt that the driver and his orderly were shot dead in the process while the wife sustained gunshot injuries.
Vanguard learnt that the shooting created panic in the area as people ran for their lives. The suspected kidnappers met no resistance and that created doubt whether they were actually kidnappers or assassins.
Efforts to get the reaction of the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Peter Ogboi, proved abortive. However, Vanguard learnt from a top police officer at the Command that the state Commissioner of Police, Mr David Omojola, had detailed a team of detectives to investigate the matter.
