CJN: Jonathan forwards Musdapher’s nomination to Senate
Judiciary, Latest Politics Tuesday, September 13th, 2011President Goodluck Jonathan has forwarded the nomination of Justice Dahiru Musdapher as Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN) to the Senate for confirmation. Senate President David Mark read the August 22 correspondence from the president to senators on resumption of plenary yesterday.
President Jonathan noted that the nomination was in conformity with Section 231, Sub-section (1) of the amended 1999 Constitution based on his nomination by the NJC.
“In conformity with Section 231, Sub-section (1) of the 1999 Constitution as amended, which gives the president powers to appoint a chief justice of Nigeria, acting on the recommendation of the National Judicial Council (NJC) and subject to confirmation of the appointment of the Senate, I have the honour to forward the nomination of Honourable Justice Musdapher for confirmation as chief justice of Nigeria.
“It is my hope that this request will receive the usual expeditious attention of the Senate.”
