Police rescue kidnap victim, recover N1.6m in Delta

The police in Delta State have rescued a senior member of staff of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), Mr Godwin Ngbeken, who was kidnapped nine days ago in Warri.

Two suspects were arrested, while the sum of N1.627 million was recovered from the kidnappers in their hideout, behind the office of a company in Warri.

The suspects were Beke Muina and Ejeita Awaritefa.

Confirming the arrest, the state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Charles Muka, on Monday, said Mr Ngbeken was rescued by anti-terrorism squad, which got the information and acted swiftly.

The suspects, according to the police spokesman, had demanded the sum of N5 million as ransom.

Items recovered from the kidnappers included one locally made pistol, nine cartridges and 11 Sim cards.

Last week, over 10 kidnap suspects were paraded in Asaba, the Delta State capital.
