FG disburses N94m UBE funds to 125 Bayelsa communities
Bayelsa, State News Tuesday, September 20th, 2011The Federal Government, on Monday, in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, inaugurated the 2010 Universal Basic Education (UBE) community initiated self-help projects, with the disbursement of N94 million to 125 communities in the state.
Addressing the people while inaugurating the scheme at the state banquet hall, the Minister of State for Education, Chief Ezenwo Wike, affirmed that the programme was part of the government’s strategic intervention in delivering social service to the education sub-sector.
He said “to ensure a quality of education and address the current imbalance in the sector, the government had taken steps to ensure full participation of key stakeholders, not only in sector funding, but also in the administration of specific programme components.”
Chief Wike contended that the administration of President Goodluck Jonathan was absolutely determined to ensure steady increase in the quality of education to the Nigerian child, adding that “the government would not spare any effort aimed at creating a conducive and enabling atmosphere for effective learning in public schools.”
He also emphasised that, “this has become very necessary in view of the fact that current challenges, especially noted imbalances in the educational quality, demanded the full involvement of all and sundry towards effecting a necessary change.”
Chief Wike said the UBEC’s initiative of utilising 14 per cent educational imbalance funds to address the lopsidedness in the education sector was a commendable development, which, he said, would facilitate the implementation and sustainability of the 2011 version of the scheme by October.
