World Leaders Salute Nigeria, Jonathan
Latest Politics Sunday, October 2nd, 2011THE queen of England, Elizabeth 11, the king of Morocco king Sidi Moulay Mohammed V1, and the Italian President, Giorgio Napolitano, are among the world leaders that sent in solidarity congratulations and goodwill messages to both Nigeria and president Goodluck Jonathan on the occasion of Nigeria’s 51st Independence yesterday.
In her message, queen Elizabeth said “On the occasion of your National Day, it gives me great pleasure in sending Your Excellency my warmest greetings, together with my best wishes for every success for the people of Nigeria in the coming year.”
King Mohammed V1 said: “Today (yesterday) the Nigerian nation added another milestone in its march to glory. I, on behalf of the good people of Morocco, bring happy felicitations and wish Nigeria prosperity, economic stability and peaceful development”
Also in an open letter to Jonathan, Italian president Napolitano said the future of Nigeria-Italian bilateral relations is very bright.
The Italian president said: “The celebration of the independence day (of Nigeria) offers me a much welcomed opportunity to convey both on behalf of the Italian people and personally, the best wishes for the prosperity of the Nigerian people”
He said further “I am confident that, even in the future, our two countries will continue to seize ever-increasing opportunities to foster their cooperation in all sectors, both bilaterally and in the framework of the relations with the European Union, with the aim of contributing to the consolidation of international peace and stability, according to democratic values and to the dialogue among civilisations and to the socio-economic development of the African continent. It is in this spirit that I am glad to express my best wishes for your personal well-being and for that of your people,” he added.
