The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has expressed its readiness to bring comedian and actor, Babatunde Omidina popularly known as Baba Suwe to court today.

Baba Suwe had been in NDLEA’s detention since October 12, 2011 over alleged possession of cocaine in his system, though series of medical examinations had been performed on him.

An Ikeja High Court had on October 26 ordered the agency to produce the actor in court today while granting an application for his release in a N100million suit he instituted against NDLEA over his arrest and detention by the agency.

He is seeking a declaration that his arrest is in gross violation of his rights.
However, in an interview with Daily Sun, NDLEA through its director of prosecution, Femi Oloruntoba expressed its readiness to produce the actor.
“We are ready to comply with the court order. We will bring him to court today,” Oloruntoba said.

Justice Yetunde Idowu of the Lagos High Court sitting in Ikeja had ordered the NDLEA to produce Omidina physically in court following an application by his counsel, Bamidele Aturu pursuant to Order IV Rules 3 and 4 of the Fundamental Human Rights Enforcement Procedure Rules 2009 for the unconditional release of his client from NDLEA’s custody pending the hearing and determination of the substantive suit.

He had also asked that the NDLEA show cause why Baba Suwe should not be released unconditionally from detention.
The comedian is seeking N100 million compensation from NDLEA for its alleged illegal and unconstitutional violation of his fundamental rights.
