Bayelsa: Timi Sylva may may decamp to APGA
Bayelsa, Headlines, Party Politics, State News Sunday, November 13th, 2011Embattled Governor of Bayelsa State, Timipre Sylva has commenced discussion with the All Progessives Grand Alliance (APGA) to possibly vie on the party’s platform during next year’s governorship election.
An official of the party who pleaded for anonymity disclosed this to Daily Sun.He said the governor at the weekend held a protracted meeting with the leadership of the party in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State capital.
A source in the governor’s campaign also confirmed the move but refused to give details of the plans.
Governor Sylva who formally declared his intention to seek re-election in a colourful ceremony in Yenagoa has been having a running battle with the Peoples Democratic Party(PDP) over party’s ticket for the election.
PDP’s screening committee is yet to grant him clearance to participate in the party’s primary. Acting National Chairman of the party Alhaji Kawu Baraje said the situation was informed by the numerous petitions against the governor by some chieftains of the party from the state.
Last week, Gov. Sylva was reported to have concluded plans to defect to the rival Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) to contest on the platform.
However, Daily SUN learnt at the weekend that the Governor approached the leadership of APGA last Friday and has held meetings with the party’s top shots .wp_posts
