725 ghost workers discovered in Bauchi LGAs
Bauchi, Headlines, Local Govt, State News Wednesday, November 23rd, 2011ABOUT 725 ghost workers have been discovered to exist in the 20 local government areas of Bauchi State.
Revealing this while submitting its report to the state Commissioner for Local Government Affairs, Alhaji Abubakar Faggo, the chairman of the task force set up by the ministry to verify workers of the local government councils in the state, Alhaji Ibrahim Musa, stated that the 161-member task force went round and verified the workers of the councils, saying that they discovered about 48,751 genuine staff of the councils in the state with 725 ghost workers on their payroll.
He said that against the embargo placed on employment, about 1,000 new workers were employed by the councils between 2009 and 2011.
The committee, however, commended Alkaleri Local Government for setting up a committee to verify its workers before the state government set up its task force on the same issue. This, he noted, made the work of the task force easier and recommended the issuance of a commendation letter to the council
