Man arraigned for stealing Obasanjo’s letterhead (When wll OBJ be arraigned for stealing the man’s billions?)
Headlines, Olusegun Obasanjo (1976-79, 99-07) Friday, December 2nd, 2011A 36-year-old man, who claimed to be a serving “Major” in the Nigerian Army, Mr Jeremiah Garba, has been arraigned before a High Court sitting in Abeokuta, on Wednesday, for stealing letterhead of former President Olusegun Obasanjo.
The accused was brought before Magistrate K.M Peters of Magistrate Court I, Isabo, Abeokuta, for stealing letterhead from the ex-president’s hilltop residence in Abeokuta, Ogun State.
Garba was arraigned on a four-count charge of stealing and impersonation. Jeremiah was accused of stealing the said letterhead paper belonging to the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library, on October 24.
The accused person used the said letterhead to write the Vice Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Professor Ishaq Oloyede, on the directive of the former president, seeking university admission for one Lawson Oluwasanu Funsho.
He was also accused of parading himself as a serving Major in the Nigerian Army.
The four-count charge was read to the accused and he pleaded not guilty to them.
Magistrate Peters, while delivering its ruling on the bail application filed before it by counsel for the accused, granted him bail on the sum of N200,000 with two sureties, who had properties worth N100,000 each.
The case was adjourned till January 12, 2012 for further hearing
