ABUJA—FEDERAL Government has given a victim recently gang-raped by ten men in Bayelsa State a grant of N500, 000 to set her up in her welding business.

This followed a request from the victim to enable her to get back to normal life. She also requested that she be treated for any sexually transmitted disease she might have contracted through the act. She also requested that she be rehabilitated and her assailants brought to justice.

The Minister of Youth Development, Malam Bolaji Abdullahi, while giving the grant to the victim in Abuja, said he had written to the Inspector General of Police, Mr Hafiz Ringim, to compel the Commissioner of Police in Bayelsa State to immediately prosecute the three men arrested over the crime.

He added that 3 out of 10 men were arrested and were being currently detained by the police while the other 7 are still at large and vowed that justice must take it course.

The minister explained that health wise, the victim is okay, as she has been medically certified free from any sexually transmitted diseases, STD, including HIV/AIDS.

Abdullahi said N500, 000 out of the N1 million she requested for to enable her to start a welding business has been provided. He appealed to well meaning Nigerians and corporate bodies to support the victim and several others that are crying for help in their areas.

Narrating her ordeal, the victim said about 10 men came to her house and took her to a nearby bush, where she was gang raped.
