Kano Speaker impeached
Headlines, Kano, State News Wednesday, December 21st, 2011The Speaker of the Kano State House of Assembly, Hon. Yusuf Abdullahi Falgore has been impeached. In his place, a new Speaker, Alhaji Gambo Sallau (Kiru Constituency) replaced him Tuesday at about 2.00 pm.
Indications of the plot to oust the Speaker became evident following a motion by Hon. Lawan Sufiyanu Gogori (Bagwai/Shanono Constituency) asking the House to impeach the Speaker on account of his failure to move the House forward.
The motion, seconded by Hon Yahaya Inusa ( Dawaki Kudu Constituency)equally alleged that the Speaker had failed to carry the House members along in governance.
Consequently, the Deputy Speaker of the 40- member House of Assembly, Hon. Isyaku Ali Danja, who presided over the sitting of the House, requested members to vote for or against the motion.
When the motion was put to vote, about 30 members of the House voted in support while a few other representatives such as members representing Gezewa, Bichi, Gwale, Minjibir and Dala Constituencies declined to vote or make speeches on the floor of the House during the debate.
Subsequently, the House entered into a closed door session and when it resumed, the Presiding Officer sought for the nomination of a new Speaker. Three names, Alhaji Gambo Sallau and Alhaji Alhassan Rurum and one other member, were nominated, out of which they settled for Hon. Gambo Sallau (Kiru Constituency).
