Politicians blamed for violence (What a surprise)
Latest Politics Thursday, January 12th, 2012The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has blamed failed politicians for the violent dimension the ongoing protest against fuel subsidy removal has assumed across the country.
The party recalled that it had previously cautioned labour and civil society organisations that if they proceeded on street protest, it might spiral out of control as it could be hijacked by vested interests.
In a statement issued by the National Publicity Secretary of the party, Professor Rufai Ahmed Alkali, in Abuja on Wednesday, it condemned in the strongest terms the violence that have ensued in parts of the country as a result of the ongoing strike.
PDP said it was particularly pained that innocent young children were being dragged into the circle of violence and “are indeed being used as human shields by mischief-makers who have hijacked the protests in order to vent their anger and frustrations over their political failures.”
The statement said that the National Chairman of the PDP, Alhaji Abubakar Kawu Baraje, on behalf of the National Working Committee (NWC), wished to commiserate with the families of those who lost their lives or property and prayed that the souls of the departed rest in perfect peace.
