INEC excludes PDP from list of Bayelsa gov candidates
Bayelsa, Party Politics, Peoples' Democratic Party (PDP), State News Thursday, January 12th, 2012The Independent National Electoral Commission on Thursday excluded the Peoples Democratic Party from the list of 36 candidates for the forthcoming governorship election in Bayelsa State.
In the list published on its website, INEC left the space for PDP candidate and running mate without any names. Instead, it stated, ‘Subject to litigation’. The party is listed on the 28th position.
It listed the names of 36 other candidates for various parties such as the Action Congress of Nigeria, All Progressives Grand Alliance, All Nigeria Peoples Party, Congress for Democratic Change.
There were indications that INEC took the step in obedience to a ruling of the Appeal Court that Governor Timipre Sylva had a right to challenge his disqualification by the PDP as the candidate.
The court also ruled that the matter should return to the Federal High Court to determine whether the party validly elected Dickson Seriake and John Jonah as its candidate and running mate respectively.
