It’s been difficult signing Taye Taiwo—Mark Hughes

QUEEN’S Park Rangers coach, Mark Hughes said getting Nigerian international, Taye Taiwo to play for him is a coup of sort.
Hughes yesterday told the club’s website he had courted the left back for three years before capturing the player finally.
Hughes was keen on the Nigerian left-back while managing both Blackburn Rovers and Manchester City.
”In three years, on the third attempt, I got Taiwo,” he told the club’s website, www.qpr.co.uk yesterday.
At Man City, Hughes felt Taiwo could fix a problematic leftback position as former England international, Wayne Bridge suffered a dip in form.
However, he said he failed to reach a compromise with the defender by his former club, Olympique Marseille in France.
At Blackburn, Marseille also blocked Hughes’ advances by putting an astronomical fee on the Nigerian.
“I actually showed an interest in him while I was at Blackburn, but he was a little bit too expensive at the time.
“He was also on my radar when I was at City, and we had an interest in him again but it didn’t happen.
Tribunesports recalls that Taiwo endured a difficult six months at AC Milan with the player performing below expectation. Now he thinks he can find his feet.
”I am a great lover of English football and in Nigeria, the Premier League is followed with a passion and I hope to do well here.’’
