Nwodo Allays Aspirants’ Fears, Assures Of Transparency

AGAINST the backdrop of complaints arising from the primary elections of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), its national chairman, Dr. Okwesilieze Nwodo, has assured that the party would conduct primaries that could stand the test of time.

A statement by Ike Abonyi, Special Adviser to the PDP Chairman, on Media, promised that a level playing field would be provided for all aspirants.

The statement read: “The National Chairman of the ruling PDP, Dr. Okwesilieze Nwodo has again assured party faithful across the country that the leadership is addressing issues arising from the primaries across the country and promised to be fair and transparent.”

“Nwodo, who was reacting to barrage of complaints from the primaries flooding his office from across the country said that the National Working Committee (NWC) was on top of the situation and is attending to complaints as they come.’’

The statement further quoted the Chairman as saying that the party had set up machinery to monitor the primaries and would act swiftly at some very obvious cases.

“Dr. Nwodo particularly frowned at the deployment of violence by some aspirants and reiterated that the NWC will quickly cancel any result emanating from venues where violence is reported. The National Chairman also warned all party members involved in the conduct and organisation of the primaries to be fair and transparent in their actions.

“Nwodo also warned that any person found to be involved in electoral malpractices including violence during the primaries would be made to face persecution and be punished according to the law.”

According to Abonyi, the Chairman, to ensure adequate monitoring of situations arising from the primaries, dedicated a complaints telephone line 08060095007 (SMS Only) to receive complaints from Party members and the rest of the public on the primaries.’’wp_posts
