Tight security as 2,500 corps members report in Kano
Headlines, Kano, NYSC (National Youth Service Corp), State News Thursday, July 5th, 2012NO fewer than 2,500 corps members out of the 2,650 posted in Kano state have reported to camp for their mandatory orientation.
The security is tighter with soldiers and policemen everywhere.
Security sources told our correspondent that over 50 soldiers, several policemen, officers of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps and local security operatives were guarding the camp.
The NYSC coordinator in the state, Alhaji Bashir Yakasai, allegedly barred the corpers from talking to the press, particularly on issues of politics and religion.
Governor Rabiu Kwankwaso has assured the corps members of adequate protection of their lives and property during their service year in the state.
Kwankwaso, in his speech during the swearing-in of the corps members urged them to put behind them the security challenges facing the state in recent times, assuring them of adequate protection.
The governor represented by his deputy, Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje said, “Government would do everything possible to ensure your safety during the three weeks orientation exercise and through the service years in the respective communities you may find yourselves.”
