Man, 73, stabs 27-yr-old to death in Edo in the presence of policemen
Edo, Headlines, State News Tuesday, February 5th, 2013IT was like a drama when a 73-year-old grandfather, Williams Omobude Uwadia, stabbed a 27-year-old man, Gabriel Amayahu Aigbosuria, to death in Benin, the Edo State capital, in the full glare of policemen.
Papa Uwadia was said to have had a quarrel with the deceased and had invited some policemen to arrest him.
On their arrival, another round of quarrel, however, ensued between the two, while Uwadia, as the policemen were attempting to mediate in the quarrel, suddenly drew out a kitchen knife and stabbed Aigbosuria, who immediately slumped and died.
Uwadia was later taken to the Criminal Investigation Department of the Edo State police command for further investigation.
The acting state Police Public Relations Officer, Ahwara Ejiroro, confirmed the incident, adding that the Homicide section of the command was already investigating the murder case.
In another development, the member representing Esan Central constituency in the Edo State House of Assembly, Honourable Victor Edoror, was, on Sunday night, abducted by unknown gunmen in Irrua.
Speaker of the House, Honourable Uyi Igbe, who disclosed this to journalists in Benin City, said the lawmaker was kidnapped with his driver while on his way to attend a meeting.
He said the kidnappers were yet to make contact with the family of the lawmaker as of Monday, while he announced the suspension of the sitting of the assembly until further notice.
Ejiroro also said the matter was under investigation.
