We killed Borno gov’s brother, ANPP candidate, others – Boko Haram

CONTRARY to the allegation by the Borno State governor, Senator Ali Modu Sheriff, that it was politicians that killed the All Nigeria People’s Party (ANPP) gubernatorial candidate, Alhaji Modu Fannami Gubio, the governor’s brother and five others, the Boko Haram sect claimed responsibility for the killings on Wednesday. The six people were killed on Friday.

A statement by the sect members pasted at strategic locations in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital, read as translated: “Definitely,  we the warriors of Jama’atu Ahlis Sunna Lidda’awati Wal-Jihad, under the leadership of Imam Abu Muhammad Abubakar Bin Muahammad, popularly known as (Shekau), are responsible for the attacks launched in Borno on Friday 23-14-32 (28th Jan. 2011), which led to the killing of Alhaji Modu Fannami Gubio, the gubernatorial candidate of the All Nigeria People’s Party (ANPP), and the brother of Governor Ali Modu Sheriff and the security men attached to them.”

The group also claimed that it was responsible for similar Christmas eve attacks  in Borno and Suldaniyya (Jos), as well as the ones in Bauchi, stressing that it was actually carrying out these (attacks) in order to propagate the name of Allah and to liberate themselves and their religion from the hands of infidels and the Nigerian government.

The sect also called on all Muslims in Nigeria to be wary, as they would very soon launch a full scale war, adding that people should desist from staying close to where security agents were positioned, as well as where politicial activities were going on and where politicians were living, stressing that such people were behind the treatment being meted out to the Muslims.

“As you can see, security agents have been deployed in churches to guard them while the same security agents are the ones maltreating the Muslims. This is the time for all of us to rise and change this government, and give way to a Muslim government. Anyone of you that assists them will receive the same punishment like them.”

While speaking on the issue, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), ASP Lawal Abdullahi, told newsmen on phone that people should ignore such propaganda and go about their normal activities, as the command was on top of the situation and would ensure the protection of life and property of citizens.wp_posts
