JAMB lifts admission embargo on LASU, S/East varsities

THE Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has lifted embargo on admission of candidates for 2011/2012 academic session placed on the Lagos State University, Ojo, and the five South-East state-owned  universities.

JAMB Registrar and Chief Executive, Professor ‘Dibu Ojerinde, made this known in Abuja, on Wednesday, after a parley with all the stakeholders,  including the proprietors of the affected institutions  (the state Ministries of Education), pro-chancellors; vice chancellors, and the National Universities Commission (NUC) to resolve the admission impasse.

He announced that candidates willing to apply to the institutions for the 2011/2012 academic session could now visit JAMB’s website for registration beginning from today. He said as soon as agreement was reached and signed at the meeting, he had already given directive for the ban on the institutions from registration on the internet to be lifted.

A comprehensive academic calendar for 2010/2011 and 2011/2012 academic sessions respectively was developed and approved by the various stakeholders on how the affected universities could make up for the lost time. Other universities affected were the Rivers State University of Science and Technology, Port Harcourt, and Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago-Iwoye.

The Chairman, Board of JAMB, Chief Sam Okpabi, told newsmen that the issues involved were amicably resolved and the proprietors of the universities had made genuine commitment to the funding of the universities and provision of infrastructures to the institutions to catch up with others.

The NUC which is the regulatory body, has also vowed to ensure religious implementation of the approved timetable, so that standards would not be compromised in the training of students.
