Marwa berates Nyako over memo to northern govs

A former military governor of Lagos state, Brig. Gen. Mohammed Marwa has berated the Adamawa State governor, Murtala Nyako, over his memo to northern governors.

Marwa, who spoke to journalists in Yola, the Adamawa State capital, on Wednesday, asked the governor to shut up and stop beating the drums of war.

Nyako, however, dismissed Marwa’s comments as the vituperation of a hireling of the Presidency.

Marwa earlier described Nyako’s tirade against the Federal Government, as an embarrassment to the military in which he served before joining politics.

The retired army general turned politician, warned northerners and other Nigerians engaged in beating the drums of war to consider the consequences of their conduct and utterances which tilt toward inciting the public.

Marwa’s comments followed the tone set by the apex northern socio-political group the Arewa Consultative Forum, the Northern Elders Forum and a former Military governor of  Kaduna State, Col. Dangiwa Umar (retd).

The ACF, NEF and Umar, had earlier called for caution when speaking on the issue.

Marwa said “of recent, Admiral Nyako has embarked on a single minded and self-appointed misadventure of being the enfant terrible of Nigeria’s elected political class.

“I find it necessary at this point in time to respond to the Admiral in my personal capacity and also as a retired military officer, a politician, a former military administrator and an indigene of Nyako’s home state, Adamawa state.”

He also condemned Nyako’s recent visit to the United States where he allegedly joined other aggrieved governors to cast aspersions on the Nigerian government.

Marwa declared that Nyako’s statement did not reflect the majority opinion among Adamawa

people.
