Nigeria to host Brazil on May 29
Akwa Ibom, Headlines, Soccer, Sports, State News Sunday, November 9th, 2014Akwa Ibom State Governor, Godswill Akpabio, on Friday revealed that the Super Eagles would on May 29 next year host the Brazil senior national team in a friendly at the newly commissioned stadium in Uyo.
May 29 is generally marked as Democracy Day in Nigeria for the swearing-in of newly elected governors and president.
It would be the Verde-Amarela’s second coming for a friendly with the Eagles in Nigeria. In their first coming, the Brazilians, inspired by Ronaldinho, defeated Nigeria 3-0 at the official opening of the National Stadium in Abuja in 2003.
“I have been directed by the Nigeria Football Federation to tell you that Brazil will field the full complement of its stars for the match, including Barcelona star Neymar,” Akpabiosaid during the opening of the AkwaIbom Stadium on Friday.
The stadium hosted its first match on Friday as Emem Eduok became the first player to score on the pitch, helping the Super Eagles to a 1-0 victory over Ghana’s U-23 team. The next match holding at the venue will be the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier between Nigeria and South Africa on November 19.
