Abia govt raises the alarm over violence plot
Abia, Headlines, State News Friday, November 28th, 2014As the ruling Peoples Democratic Party has concluded arrangements to conduct primary election for its House of Assembly aspirants nationwide, the Abia State Government has raised the alarm over alleged plots by “certain elements” to cause mayhem in the state. Special Political Adviser to Governor Theodore Orji, Chief Ama Abraham, who raised the alarm at a press conference on Friday in Umuahia, said the government had uncovered plot by some unscrupulous elements who are not members of PDP “to create confusion and portray the PDP in bad light.”
Abraham warned members of the public who have no business with the primaries to steer clear from the venue of the exercise “as security agents have been put on red alert to deal with anyone found fomenting troubles.”
He also called on aspirants to put the interest of the people above their parochial interests, urging the eventual winners to be magnanimous in victory and losers to accept defeat in the spirit of sportsmanship.
He further warned politicians to restrain from inflammable remarks capable of truncating Nigeria’s democracy.
Abraham criticised recent media comments credited to the national leader of the All Progressive Congress and former Governor of Lagos State, Chief Bola Tinubu, where he allegedly said Nigerians should do everything possible, including using witchcraft, to remove PDP from power in 2015.
He expressed shock that such “appalling and regrettable” remarks with far- reaching implications could come from a statesman of Tinubu’s standing.
Abraham urged security agencies to rise to the occasion by inviting for questioning, anyone no matter how highly placed, that makes any utterance capable of derailing Nigeria’s democracy.
