PDP remains a unifying factor, Says Wamakko as 392,299 defect

Governor Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko has said that in spite of what is said about the ruling Peoples Democratic Party, PDP by some people across the country, the party still remains the backbone of the unity of this country.

He spoke when he received 392,299 people that defected to the party from other parties, mostly from the Democratic Peoples Party, DPP and the Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN across the 23 local government areas of the state.

According to Wamakko, “Many things have been said against our party, but we believe it is the PDP that have united this country in spite of our differences,” he said adding that it accommodated everyone that wishes this country well and irrespective of his or her geographical location or ethnicity and “what we are witnessing today is a clear justification of our unity in diversity and how accommodative our party is.”

He assured that all decampees would receive equal treatment with those they found in the party “because what they have shown by joining the winning party is their resolve to contribute their quota towards the development of their state and the country at large.”

Wamakko further appealed to members of other opposition parties to heed to his persistent calls to join his government to make Sokoto state great.

Speaking earlier, PDP vice chairman in charge of the Northwest, Dr. Abdullahi Danladi Sankara said the occasion was a testimony to the fact that PDP government under Governor Wamakko was doing well in the state. “We are proud of Governor Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko who has proved to be the vanguard of PDP in this geo-political zone and the nation at large,” he said.

Honourable (Arc) Ibrahim Aliyu Al-Mustapha, who was a DPP member of the State House of Assembly and held the position of Minority Whip, responded on behalf of the decampees.

He said that their defection to the PDP was not by force, intimidation or for financial gain but out of conviction that Sokoto state under Wamakko was progressing rapidly and they wanted to be part of the history of those who supported the course.

Notable among the decampees were four other DPP legislators, two prominent zonal chairmen of DPP in the state, Sahabi Bodinga and Sahabi Tungan Kwangi.wp_posts
