COVID-19: Buhari makes U-turn on addressing the nation today
COVID-19, Health, Muhammadu Buhari (1983-85, 2015 - 2023), National Politics, Presidency Monday, May 18th, 2020(NNP) President Muhammadu Buhari will not be addressing the nation today as initially stated by Aliyu Sani, the national coordinator for the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19. However, the media aide to the president, Femi Adesina noted that there will be no broadcast from the president that none was initially planned.
In his Twitter handle, the aide stated, “No presidential broadcast on COVID-19 updates today. None was planned. Rather, the Presidential Task Force will during its usual media briefings bring the nation up to speed on the next steps.”
Unlike many leaders around the world who address their nation daily as this is a fasting moving situation with many contours, Buhari has only addressed the nation less than half a dozen times. This, in spite of calls from Nigerians for the president to be more communicative on the COVID-19 situation in the country.
