Polls: ACN Raises Alarm Over Rigging Tactics

The Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) has raised  alarm over the clandestine plot by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP to rig the forthcoming general elections in Edo State.

Chairman of the party in the state, Hon Thomas Okosun said the party had uncovered several plots by the PDP to undermine the electoral process and the principle of one man, one vote by harassing and intimidating its candidates for the elections.

According to him, “The PDP, using unconventional tactics and the security agents of the state, invited a stalwart of our party, Chief Francis Inegbeneki  on a trumped-up charge where he was detained for three days.

“Also, the PDP has concluded plans to harass and intimidate Deacon Domingo Obende, our senatorial candidate for Edo North and Comrade Peter Akpattasson, House of Representatives candidate for Akoko Edo who, we learnt have been declared wanted in a bid to remove them from the state before and during the elections.

“We are also aware of plans to carry out massive arrests of our members in a bid to cow them and make them unavailable for the election.

“Also, from reports available to us, the PDP, using the instrument of state at their disposal, has concluded arrangements to replace all the DPOs in the state with those who would be favourably disposed to doing their bidding, in addition to replacing all the electoral officers and the resident electoral commissioner.”

According to Okosun, “The ACN is also aware that the PDP is buying over,  the returning officers, of the other parties as well as making overtures to our returning officers with a view to ultimately rigging the election at each ward.
