Ekiti: Parties pass vote of confidence in police, SSS

Some political parties in Ekiti State have passed a vote of confidence in the Commissioner of Police in the state, Mr. Olayinka Balogun, and the Director of State Security Service, Mr. Samuel Tamuno.

The parties spoke through one of their leaders, Mr. Tunji Ogunlola, in a statement made available to our correspondent in Ado-Ekiti on Thursday.

Ogunlola described the allegations of bias levelled against the police boss and his SSS counterpart in the state as spurious, saying they represented themselves and not their political parties.

He said that the allegation of bias levelled against the security chiefs by some political parties could not be substantiated.

He said that the two security chiefs accused by the disgruntled politicians had handled security situations in the state professionally, wondering why some politicians in the state were bent on blackmailing the two men.

Ogunlola said, “We wish to dissociate ourselves from pre-election psychosis that is moving these individuals to raise the false alarm that has the potential to ruin whatever the authorities might have put in place to have a credible electoral contest this weekend.

“The individuals that addressed the media to make wild allegations against the commissioner of police and the state director of SSS are not known at anytime to represent the opposition parties in any capacity.

“At best, these individuals are the ones that are uncomfortable with the peaceful co-existence among the parties in the state.

“We are aware that certain elements that are raising the alarm now are the ones orchestrating plans to make Ekiti State ungovernable because of the fear that they may not have their way as usual to cause electoral heist in the state.

“We wish to let Nigerians know that the handling of security matters by the commissioner of police and the state director of SSS has been excellent.

“We members of all the political parties in the state wish to express confidence in these officers for their maturity and patriotism to serve their fatherland.

“We are aware of diabolical moves by the enemies of democracy to cause mayhem during the elections and they know these officers are well prepared for them, hence their self-serving wild allegation against the officers.”
