Ogun guber : I won’t step down –Olurin

Ogun State gubernatorial candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Adetunji Olurin yesterday foreclosed stepping down for his kinsman, Mr. Gboyega Isiaka, the gubernatorial candidate of the Peoples Party of Nigeria (PPN).

He spoke against the backdrop of the outcome of a meeting of Yewa-Awori youths on Wednesday in Ilaro which urged the duo of Olurin and Isiaka to close ranks in the general interest of the Ogun West Senatorial District.

Olurin and Isiaka hail from Ogun West zone but the youths feared that their lack of consensus may give room for the ACN governorship candidate, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, to coast home to victory during the elections.

Addressing professional groups in Ogun State yesterday, Olurin said there was no iota of truth in the rumour that he contemplated stepping down for someone.
‘’There is no iota of truth in the rumour that I am going to step down. I am ready for this election, I am going to stick to it and I am not going to step down. I will continue until the 26th of April when I believe Ogun State people will be liberated from the shackles of poverty that they found themselves.’’
‘’They should not be under any illusion that I, Adetunji Olurin will step down for anyone in this gubernatorial contest, perhaps, unless they step down for me; that is the fact.

He reiterated his early conviction that he was on a rescue mission in the state and lamented socio-economic and infrastructural decay in the state. The PDP gubernatorial hopeful also declared that with the debt profile of the state which the incumbent governor put at 20 billion, it would be pretty difficult for his administration to commence full free education. Rather, Olurin said the free education programme which would be in phases would start in the primary and secondary schools.

His words: ‘’With the debt profile of this state, nobody can give free education, or else the state will crumble. Not that it is not good; it must be tailored towards the resources of the state which currently is in poor condition.’

While seeking their supports and co-operation, Olurin assured the professionals of transforming the state from what it was, adding that virtually all infrastructural facilities in the state had collapsed.
Admitting that the PDP in recent times, had disappointed the people of the state, Olurin expressed delight that those responsible for the actions that people were complaing about had left the party.
“Those who are responsible for that action that people were complaining about have left PDP and are solidly in the PPN.

They should answer for the charges, they should not bother Olurin for that answer. This is a new PDP and by the grace of God, we shall not let you down.”
