A traditional ruler, Olu of Onibuku in Ado-Odo/Ota Local Council of Ogun State, Oba Abraham Olusegun Bankole, has been crushed to death by a truck.
The Guardian learnt that the monarch, who boarded a tricycle, also known as keke, died on Tuesday on the Idi-Iroko expressway, close to Winners Chapel, Sango-Ota.
The Oba was said to have died on the spot when the truck marked: EPE 252 XF, crushed him while trying to alight from the tricycle.
According to an eyewitness, Oba Bankole, died instantly after the truck rammed into the tricycle in which the monarch was in.
The source said the monarch fell while trying to escape, but was killed by the truck.
Confirming the incident, spokesperson for Ogun State Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Florence Okpe, said: “I was informed of the incident today.”
Okpe, however, said she was yet to be fully briefed by the FRSC in Ota Unit.
The remains of the monarch has been deposited at the General Hospital, Ota, while police officers have moved the truck out of the road.
Also, spokesperson for the Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps (TRACE), BabatundeAkinbiyi, said his officer had been briefed over the fatal accident.
“Yes, it is true. There was an accident in the area today and it recorded a casualty,” he said.
“Corps Commander and Chief Executive Officer of Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency commiserate with the Kabiyesi’s family and entire inhabitants of the community,” he added.
There are speculations that Oba Bankole might have parked his car due to the hike in the pump price of petrol.
