Elechi Raises Alarm over Plot to Kill Him

Ahead of the April 26 gubernatorial and House of Assembly elections in Ebonyi State, the state governor, Martin Elechi Friday raised the alarm over an alleged plan to assassinate him to clear coast for the opposition to win election in the state.
Elechi alleged that his fellow contestants had perfected arrangements on how to snatch ballot boxes during the April 26 governorship election.
The governor, who raised the alarm on a state-wide radio broadcast, accused the opposition of hatching the plot. He however did not give further details on the sweeping allegation.
“The falsehood being circulated in pamphlets, handbills and newspapers by my opponents are not even as devilish as their plan to assassinate me and snatch ballot boxes on election day. None of these antics will deter us from our resolve to march forward and turn Ebonyi State to a state of envy in Nigeria,” he noted.
The governor described the methods of the opposition as “the antics of a confused horde in a sinking boat,” adding that in his earlier broadcast to the state on March 2, he had outlined the build-up of dangerous scenario in the state by those who were bent on throwing the state on fire.
He recounted his earlier warning of massive importation of dangerous weapons, the plan to orchestrate violence and make the state ungovernable and make the state elections appear incredible.
Elechi stated that so many people have been arrested with guns of different descriptions as well as machetes, even as bombs were also discovered in Ohaukwu Local Government area of the state.
He alleged that supporters of his party has been killed or maimed even as some are still lying critically sick in hospitals.
In spite of the alleged provocations, Elechi enjoined well meaning citizens of the state to heed his warning by being law abiding.
