Imo: Ohakim hands over to Okorocha

The outgoing Governor of Imo State, Chief Ikedi Ohakim, on Friday officially handed over to his successor and governor-elect, Chief Rochas Okorocha, two days ahead of schedule.
The News Agency of Nigeria reported that Ohakim lost to Okorocha of the All Progressives Grand Alliance in the general elections in April.
In his remark at the handover ceremony, which took place at the Executive Council Chambers, Government House, Owerri, Ohakim said that the state under his administration did not owe.
He explained that the state had a debit balance of N6bn and a credit balance of N17.7m in eight different banks operated by his administration.
He threw light on the N40bn bond obtained by his administration in June 2009, saying that it only drew N18.5bn, while N13bn was still unused.
“It is worthy to note that as at April 2011, Imo State has serviced her obligations to the investors to that bond for the first tranche to the tune of N10.1bn,” he said.
