German govt. investigates shooting of a Nigerian-born woman
Africa & World Politics, Headlines Thursday, June 2nd, 2011The Embassy of Nigeria in Germany said on Wednesday that the German authorities have commenced investigation into the shooting of a Nigerian, Mrs Christy Schnudeck, allegedly by a policewoman.
It was gathered that Schnudeck, who was from Edo, was shot at a job centre in Frankfurt by a policewoman, when she went to the facility to collect welfare claims.
Embassy sources said, in a telephone interview, that the German authorities were unwilling to engage the mission on the matter because the deceased had a German passport.
“When the information got to us, we consulted with the host authorities but we were told that the deceased was a German citizen and that they were already investigating the matter,’’ the source said.
The source however, added that in spite of this the embassy would continue to monitor the investigation to ensure that justice was done.
According to the sources, unconfirmed reports indicated that the deceased, who was mentally challenged, had stabbed a police woman at the job centre for homeless people and those with addiction problems.
“The Police woman was said to have reportedly responded to the stabbing by shooting her dead,” the sources added.
It is, however, not clear if her relations in Nigeria are in the picture of what happened to her in Germany.(NAN)
